Luggage Capacity Matters: How We Design for Real-World Tours

Ask a tour operator what the most common cause of passenger complaint is on their multi-day routes, and luggage will appear in the top three answers almost every time. Cases that won't fit. Cases stacked unsafely. Cases that arrive at the hotel scratched or damaged. Cases that delay the morning departure because of the time it takes to redistribute them.

The minibus market, in our experience, has historically under-specified for luggage. Headline seating capacity sells contracts; luggage capacity wins repeat business. We approach the problem differently.

Our starting principle is one large case per seated passenger. Not one cabin bag. Not one medium case. One large case — the kind that real tour passengers actually arrive with. That principle, applied across our 16-, 19- and 22-seat configurations, sets the rear locker volume that everything else has to work around.

From there, we design the locker for accessibility, not just volume. A single full-width rear door, hinged at the top, gives a tour leader a clear sightline over the whole locker contents — which means cases can be loaded and retrieved in the sequence they need to come out at each stop. There are no internal partitions to navigate around, and no awkward second-row access points that slow handling.

We also specify a luggage-securing system as standard. Cases on a long motorway run move. Cases that move scuff each other, scuff the locker interior, and arrive in a state that reflects badly on the operator. Our standard tie-down system is engineered for tour-duty cases and does not require the driver to learn a complex strapping pattern.

Underneath these decisions is a simple test: does this vehicle make the tour leader's job easier on day five of an eight-day tour? If the answer is yes, the specification is right. If the answer is no, we go back and refine it. That principle is why luggage capacity has been a defining feature of every Pacific Tur Sprinter we have ever built.
